Meaning
even if (hypothetical concession)
How to use it
Attaches to a verb/adjective stem to concede a hypothetical or extreme situation while affirming that the main clause still holds regardless. It means 'even if / even though it were the case', emphasizing that the assumed condition does not change the outcome. It is more emphatic and formal than -아도/어도 and common in written or solemn speech.
Often preceded by 비록 or 설령 ('even if') for emphasis.,Similar to -ㄹ지언정 but expresses hypothesis, not a 'rather' preference.
