Meaning
reported -대 (says that) vs -래 (says to/that is)
How to use it
-대 contracts -다고 해 (reporting a statement with verbs/adjectives): 온대 'says (it) comes.' -래 contracts -(이)라고 해 (reporting a noun-이다 statement) or -(으)라고 해 (reporting a command): 학생이래 'says it's a student'; 가래 'tells (me) to go.'
Pick by what was originally said: statement→-대; noun-이다 or command→-래.,Question reported is -냬, proposal is -재 (same family).
