떨어뜨리다 / 떨어트리다
Meaning
-뜨리다 and -트리다 are both standard
How to use it
The emphatic suffix pair -뜨리다/-트리다 (adds force to an action, often 'drop/break/knock') is officially accepted in BOTH forms. So 떨어뜨리다 = 떨어트리다 (to drop), 깨뜨리다 = 깨트리다 (to break), 쏟뜨리다 = 쏟트리다 (to spill out), 부딪뜨리다 = 부딪트리다 (to slam into). Pick either — neither is a mistake — but stay consistent within one text.
This is a rare 'both are right' case — Korean spelling usually allows exactly one form.,The plain verbs still exist: 떨어지다 (to fall) vs 떨어뜨리다 (to make fall).
