Meaning
but / however (formal concessive-additive)
How to use it
Attaches to a verb or adjective stem to grant or state the first clause while adding a qualification, condition, or contrast in the second. It is formal and written, equivalent to '…, but / provided that / however'. Often used to give permission with a stipulation: 'you may do X, but (only) under condition Y'.
Common fixed forms: 하되, 좋되, 가능하되.,More formal/literary than -지만; typical in rules, contracts, and guidelines.
