Korean Grammar Patterns
-데 vs -대
Meaning
-데 (I recall) vs -대 (they say)
How to use it
-데 (from -더라) reports what the speaker personally saw/experienced: 좋데 'it was good (I saw).' -대 (contraction of -다고 해) reports what someone else said: 좋대 'they say it's good.' Same sound difference in writing distinguishes firsthand vs hearsay.
Both sound similar in speech; context disambiguates.,-데 ≈ -더라고요; -대 ≈ -다고 해요 / -다네요.
