Korean Grammar Patterns
-에요 vs -예요
Meaning
이에요/예요 spelling
How to use it
After a noun ending in a consonant use 이에요; after a vowel use the contraction 예요 (이에요 → 예요). Also write 아니에요 (not 아니예요), because 아니다 takes 에요 directly with no 이.
Consonant: 책이에요; vowel: 의자예요.,아니에요 is correct; 아니예요 is a frequent mistake.
