Meaning
in order to / with the intention of (formal)
How to use it
Attaches to a verb stem to express the speaker's intention or purpose, similar to -(으)려고 but more formal and written. The subject of both clauses must be the same, and it often appears in speeches, reports, and announcements. The form -고자 하다 means 'to intend/wish to do'.
More formal than -(으)려고; rare in casual conversation.,Commonly fixed as -고자 합니다 in formal speech to state goals politely.
